The Burren Adventure

Image

The Club had our May weekend in the Burren Co.Clare
This is definitely the best time of the year to visit this area. The early walkers arrived lunchtime Friday and after some sustenance in the Monks we headed to do The Ballyvaughan loop walk, 8km and a great introduction to the area. On Saturday morning with our guide Shane we walked part of The Black Head. Sunday took us on the Abbey Hill loop. The flora and terrain was amazing. We heard and saw the cuckoo on a few occasions. The views from the top of Abbey Hill across Galway Bay and Connemara were something too remember. A highly recommended part of Ireland to visit any time of year but in the May sunshine(well a small bit) we where spoiled…..

Molanna Loop

“Molanna Loop” in the Ballyhouras. It’s 13km and takes about 3hr30mins. It is classed as Moderate. The walk started in Ballyorgan village and we traveled along the river Keale for approx 5km, all flat. We got to Darragh, the first km of this walk , which we know well. We then travel right along a forest road and go through a farmyard and fields to get back to the river again and back to Ballyorgan. Great weather and fabulous crew….
Thanks again to Helen our walk leader….

Mangerton Mountain Killarney

Mangerton did not disappoint… we started in a blaze of Sunshine ☀️ and by the time we got to the Devils punch bowl the low clouds covered the mountains. The visibility wasn’t to bad so we scaled the mountain clockwise. Getting back below the clouds for a well earned stop and enjoyed the views. Thanks to our Walk Leader Viktorija…

Cailleach Beara Loop

Just across the county bonds….. We had a day out with a great hike on the Cailleach Beara Loop in the Bonane Heritage Park.
It starts on country lanes to paved access roads and then cross country but is way marked and easy to navigate. There are great views to the south of Bantry Bay and north to Kenmare. The trail comes close to the Caha Pass where you can see the arches over the road way. It’s a great 11km Hike with great thanks to Deirdre our Walk leader.
